Christmasparty,
feb'04, Dublin
february 2004
At Cyclone’s
headquarter in Dublin, one showed us the new cycle
courier dispatching
room and we got invited to join
the couriers
christmas
party. So we were happy
and looked forward to meet our
friends from ECMC2002 again at this event and to make pictures
to provide them with a christmas present.
But then:
We came to the partyplace and got asked at the door for our
invitation.
As we explained the doormen we would not have a written
one but there would
be several people inside knowing us, one of
the doormen went for a
manager. I do not know if it was the pub’s
or Cyclone’s manager
but a man came and told us there would
nobody be in here who is
knowing us. Wherever he could be
that sure - i do not know. As we asked the doormen if one
of us
could go in for a minute to see, we were told that this would not
be
possible and that we should better go now.
This is not at all messengerlike. I have
never even heared from
a messenger party where foreign cycle couriers who
wanted to say
hello got locked out.
This sucks.
Even though we had more than one verbal
invitation, we left there
my name and mobile-phonenumber
and went away looking for a
frendlier place to spend the few hours before
we had to leave
Dublin by nightlink.
Finally
we ended at a birthday party where we had a lot of fun.
We go to Dublin at least once a year
as we love the place and the
people. But as one is apparently not welcome as
a messenger at
messenger parties in Dublin, we will not
even
try to
go to that
kind of event next time when
in Dublin.
We allways thought that one important part in messenger spirit
is that
we are one big family all over the world. Now we learned
that
this spirit seems to be lost not in the single Dublin courier
riders
but in
the staff there.
So we hope to meet the messengers from
Dublin soon again but we
will not count on invitations or promises again
as we are
really
very disapionted.
Sorry,
still with love,
Roli413 from Veloblitz Zurich and Andreas CH.
